If you have a tight budget and if you're planning to go to Jakarta backpacking, well, we have a lots of nice places for you to stay. Only about 10-20$ per night you can get a room, and yes in central of Jakarta. There are White'z Guest House located in Cideng, Tanah Abang. Only 10 minutes away from Sarinah, the Centre of Jakarta. And also we have the Jaksa Street, there's a lot of cheap motels in Jaksa Street. It is 5 minutes away walking to Sarinah also. The room rates may vary in Jaksa, it also have a lot of cafe, pub and billiards places. mostly, Tourists go there (backpackers) to enjoy the night life of Jakarta.

Jakarta Transportation Tips
In Jakarta we have a lots of public transportations, but for tourists I do not recommended take any city bus (unless they are shuttle bus like hotels to the malls). It is pretty dangerous to take bus while in Jakarta if you do not familiar with the area.
We have a Trans Jakarta BusWay, it is the fastest, easiest and cheapest way to travel in Jakarta. Busway will never meet a traffic jam, it is a local transportation with a station on every check points. It cost about Rp3500/less than 0.50 cents! it is cheap huh!
City Taxi, We have a lot of taxi brands in Jakarta, the most famous taxi brand and mostly all tourists are using them, are Blue Bird. They are fine and I must say it is pretty expensive. We also have a lots of other taxis. Taxi is one of the simpliest way to travel in Jakarta.
Motorcycle Taxi, Yes! We have motorcycle taxi as well! Don't take this if you have no idea where are you going to. Mostly the motorcycle taxi driver know the Jakarta area very well, they might give you tips and suggestions where to go, but becareful don't get ripped off! The most expensive way to take this transport is about 5$ or Rp50.000, with that amount, you can cross half-way Jakarta!
Bajaj, Just like in Bangkok it called Tuk-Tuk, but it is very noisy and cheap! it is fun!

Travel tips to Jakarta
Here is some basic information about traveling to Jakarta, Indonesia. Jakarta is the capital city of Indonesia, it is the metropolitan city in Indonesia. Other than jakarta, Indonesia's biggest city is Bandung, Medan, Surabaya, and also the famous island in the world, Bali.
If you want to travel to Jakarta, I have three options for you, high budget, standard budget and low budget. Jakarta provides all the budgets levels for travellers. Indonesia's money currency is in Rupiahs, today, Rupiahs rate is about Rp8.700/US$, Which for the Americans, living and spending their money in Jakarta is not a big deal. For European, It rate about Rp12.000/Euro, which is a very good deal. Don't be surprised if you happen to find a mineral bottle cost Rp5000, it is not expensive, it is cheap, it just that Indonesian add more zero's :)
However, the International airport is Soekarno-Hatta Int'l Airport, It is located 50 minutes away from the center of Jakarta. You can take taxi or a bus to the center of Jakarta or any location you want in Jakarta, it only cost you Rp20.000 (about 3$) for the bus and it cost more expensive you take the taxi, it cost about Rp100,000(10-13$) from the airport to the central jakarta.
Because Jakarta is the metropolitan city and everyone comes to Jakarta to make a living, it makes Jakarta pretty crowded and we get used with the traffic jam. Time that you NEED to AVOID while working days are : 6AM - 8AM in the morning and 4PM to 6PM in the evening. Mostly all part of Jakarta is jammed.
I will write soon about how and what to see in Jakarta!
